Around 7:26 p.m. Wednesday, an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper found a woman, later identified as Moore, on the ground in the middle of West Main Street who appeared to have been hit by a vehicle, according to Xenia police.
The trooper contacted Greene Central Communications, which dispatched Xenia police and fire crews to the scene.
Neither a driver nor vehicle were there when crews arrived.
Fire personnel determined Moore was dead, police said.
An SUV was reportedly seen leaving the area right after the crash. An SUV with apparent fresh damage and no license plates was found a few blocks away, according to police.
Investigators identified the driver as 40-year-old Brandon Douglas Swan and learned he left the area in another vehicle.
After fleeing the crash scene, police said that he made his way to Dayton, where he obtained another vehicle and left the Dayton area, police said. Police notified other agencies in the Miami Valley to be on the lookout for Swan, and he was finally found and arrested by the Monroe Police Department in Butler County.
In all, Xenia police said that Swan was charged in Xenia Municipal Court with two counts of tampering with evidence and one of leaving the scene of an accident, all felonies.
At the time of writing he was being held in the Greene County Jail, pending arraignment on Friday.
